Dr. Penny J. Gilmer is the Nancy Marcus Professor Emerita in the Chemistry and Biochemistry Department at Florida State University. Since 2009, Dr. Gilmer has been the PI at FSU on a National Science Foundation ADVANCE-PAID grant, AAFAWCE (Alliance for the Advancement of Florida's Academic Women in Chemistry and Engineering). Florida State is one of five universities statewide affiliated with the project. See AAFAWCE's webpage for more information. She and the others on the team have applied for NSF ADVANCE-Institutional Transformation grant. |
Gilmer is also Senior Personnel in Science for a grant from the US Department of Education: Institute of Education Sciences for Improving Science Assessments at FSU's Center for the Advancement of Learning and Assessment (CALA).
And, for fun, Dr. Gilmer is also enrolled in a Master Gardener program through the Leon County Extension Office!

Drs. Katherine Wieseman and Penny Gilmer finished writing and editing Dr. Hedy Moscovici's first book because she died of cancer in November of 2011 before she could finish it. Penny had served on Hedy's doctoral committee in Science Education at FSU in 1994. Hedy's book, Learn Science, Learn Math, Learn to Teach Science and Math, Homo sapiens!, is available in paperback for $19 from Amazon by clicking on the picture below. This book would be excellent for those science educators with a cultural bend who are looking for a good book to use when they teach prospective (or practicing) science or mathematics teachers.
