Dr. Penny J. Gilmer is the Nancy Marcus Professor Emerita in the Chemistry and Biochemistry Department at Florida State University.

Since 2009, Dr. Gilmer has been the PI at FSU on a National Science Foundation ADVANCE-PAID grant, AAFAWCE (Alliance for the Advancement of Florida's Academic Women in Chemistry and Engineering). Florida State is one of five universities statewide affiliated with the project. See AAFAWCE's webpage for more information. She and the others on the team have applied for NSF ADVANCE-Institutional Transformation grant.

Gilmer is also Senior Personnel in Science for a grant from the US Department of Education: Institute of Education Sciences for Improving Science Assessments at FSU's Center for the Advancement of Learning and Assessment (CALA).

And, for fun, Dr. Gilmer is also enrolled in a Master Gardener program through the Leon County Extension Office!


In addition, Dr. Gilmer has just published a book with Mei-Hung Chiu (National Taiwan Normal University) and David F. Treagust (Curtin University, Australia) which they co-edited. The book commemorates the centennial of Marie Curie's Nobel Prize in Chemistry and her 100 years of impact on science and women.
