Every Spring, the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, as part of a state-wide outreach program initiated by the Florida section of the American Chemical Society (ACS), hosts “CHEMATHON”, a scholastic competition for high school students in the Big Bend and Pan Handle Areas. Invitations are open to all public and private certified high schools in these counties. THIS YEAR’S EVENT WILL BE ON SATURDAY MARCH 24TH, 2012.

Chemathon is a team competition for students who have had, or will soon be completing, at least one year of high school chemistry.

Teams consist of 4 students and each high school is allowed to bring up to 3 teams in the AP/IB Division and 3 teams in the General Division to the competition (Up to 6 teams per school).

Competitions consist of a team laboratory activity and an individual and team scored chemistry examination.
