Quantum Design MPMS SQUID Magnetometer

Description:

Magnetometer using superconducting magnetic loops containing Josephson junctions to measure very low magnetic fields. It's equipped with an Evercool liquid helium compressor. (SQUID = superconducting quantum interference device; MPMS = magnetic properties measuring system)

Asylum Research AFM

Description:

Atomic force microscope (AFM) using a dual view base for both opaque and transparent samples, PEEK cantilever holder, (TLP)-SA Base-3D-Dual View, piezo actuators to move the sample in X & Y (100 µm with flexure amplification), to move the cantilever in Z (16 µm) and to oscillate the cantilever for AC mode, Bioheater and Polymer Heater.

Rigaku Ultima3 Powder X-Ray Diffractometer

Description:

The Rigaku Ultima3 is designed for rapid acquisition of X-ray diffraction patterns for powder samples. A high-precision Bragg-Brentano Θ-Θ wide-angle horizontal goniometer and parallel beam optics, copper X-ray source, and an intensified CCD detector allow collection of the diffraction pattern from   Θ=10o-82o in three 24o segments. A scintillation counter detector is used for calibration purposes. Standard, small angle and high temperature sample attachments are available.

Panalytical X'PERT Pro Powder X-Ray Diffractometer

Description:

The X’PERT Pro uses the PreFIX concept to allow rapid exchange of system modules without additional alignment to perform additional analysis on a sample. Powder samples can be analyzed in reflectance or transmission mode and the X-ray tube can be rotated between line focus and point focus. Several sample holders can be used for powders or in capillaries, some with Anton Paar temperature stages.

Bruker APEX 2 Single Crystal X-Ray Diffractometer

Description:

Designed to determine the crystal structures of single crystals of small molecules. Samples are mounted on a horizontally oriented 3-axis goniometer (SMART APEX II) with a fixed-chi stage at 54.74o, a phi drive with 360o rotation and free rotation in omega.

Panalytical Epsilon 3 X-Ray Fluorometer

Description:

The Epsilon 3 is a compact energy dispersive X-ray spectrometer designed for elemental analysis of a wide range of samples. Equipped with a rhodium X-ray tube and a silicon drift detector, the Epsilon 3 will detect elements from sulfur to uranium. OMNIAN software allows semiquantitative, standardless determination of unknowns. The user may create standard sets to analyze samples whose elemental composition is known. Ten samples may be loaded on the carousel for automatic measurement. Samples can be run in air or helium.

TA Instruments TGA

Description:

The thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) is a thermal weight-change analysis instrument using a platinum pan to hold the sample suspended in a furnace. A liquid heat exchanger dissipates heat from the furnace.

TA Instruments SDT: Simultaneous DSC & TGA

Description:

The SDT is capable of collecting both differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) data at the same time by measuring the heat flow and weight changes associated with phase transitions and reactions in samples in the temperature range from room temperature to 1500oC. The SDT uses 90 µl alumina sample cups (supplied by the user) to hold samples and for the reference beam.

PerkinElmer Lambda 950 UV/VIS/NIR Spectrophotometer

Description:

The Lambda 950 is a wavelength scanning double-beam instrument operating in the ultraviolet, visible and near-infrared (UV/VIS/NIR) using either a deuterium or tungsten-halogen light source, one of two gratings – one for the UV/Vis, the other for the NIR – in the monochromator and two detectors – a Hamamatsu R6872 photomultiplier for the UV/VIS and a Peltier cooled PbS detector for the NIR.

NanoDrop ND-1000 Spectrophotometer

Description:

The ND-1000 measures 1 µl liquid samples by trapping the liquid between two optic fibers. The gap between the fibers is controlled to give either a 1 mm or 0.2 mm light path. A pulsed xenon flash lamp light source passes through the sample and is dispersed over a fixed wavelength range onto a linear CCD detector array. The ND-1000 is designed to measure highly concentrated samples.  photomultiplier for the UV/VIS and a Peltier cooled PbS detector for the NIR.

PerkinElmer Spectrum 100 FT-IR Spectrometer

Description:

A Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR) spectrometer, the Spectrum 100 is equipped with an attenuated total reflectance (ATR) sample chamber consisting of a ZnSe crystal overcoated with diamond using a single-bounce configuration to collect reflectance spectra to simplify collection of strongly absorbing samples such as solutions, emulsions and solids.

Horiba JY Fluoromax-4 Fluorometer

Description:

Fluorometer set up to perform either steady state fluorescence spectra or time correlated single photon counting (TCSPC) fluorescence lifetimes.

Horiba JY LabRam HR800 Raman Spectrograph

Description:

Microscope based 800 mm focal length Raman spectrograph coupled to four lasers to supply excitation wavelengths at 785 nm, 633 nm, 514.5 nm, 488 nm, 364 nm, 257 nm & 244 nm. The Olympus BX30M microscope is equipped with 5x, 10x, 20x, 40x & 50x Visible/NIR objectives and 5x, 15x & 40x ultraviolet objectives. The Raman spectrograph uses Edge filters to couple the laser beam into the microscope’s optical axis and to filter the scattered laser light before the Raman signal enters the spectrograph.

Transient Absorption Spectrometer

Description:

The Edinburgh Instruments LP980-KS Laser Flash Photolysis Spectrometer can measure laser-induced transient absorption and emission kinetics and spectra using either a kinetic detector (photomultiplier tube for the UV/VIS, InGaAs detector for the NIR) or a gated intensified CCD detector using time gates as short as 10 ns. The pump laser is a Nd:YAG laser operating at 355 nm (third harmonic) to pump an Optical Parametric Oscillator (OPO). The system is normally operated at 1 Hz. The probe is a 150 W pulsed Xenon arc lamp for kinetic and spectral measurements from multi-ns up to 300 µs. A 50 W Tungsten Halogen lamp is used for longer time scales. Most spectrometer and laser functions are computer controlled.
