Subcritical Water Chromatography
My project involves characterizing
the use of subcritical water as a mobile phase in
reversed-phase liquid chromatography. The use of 100% aqueous mobile phases in
lieu of traditional hydroorganic mobile phases is
both less expensive and "greener". We are currently developing a
relationship between SCW temperature and percent acetonitrile with regard to
solvent strength of the mobile phase. In
addition, an Ethanol/Subcritical Water mobile phase
will be explored as a green solution to allow for gradient elution and higher
solvent strengths compared to pure SCW.
