Memorandum To: CHM 1045 Recitation Instructors Dillhyon, Martin, Callihan, Guile From: Robley Light Date: March 4, 1996 Re: Recitation 9, week of March 4 Hand back quizzes and go over them. New material since the last quiz includes metals, non-metals, reaction of their oxides with water, metal oxides with acids, non- metal oxides with bases, amphoteric oxides, and some reactions of alkali metals, alkaline earth metals, hydrogen, halogens, oxygen family, and noble gases. (i.e., the rest of Chapter 7). In chapter 8 the test will cover through the material on ionic bonding, through page 258. They should understand the relative sizes of ions, how size and charge affect lattice energy, and the component steps of the Born-Haber cycle. Also using the Lewis dot symbols to represent elements and their ions. I will start covalent bonding on Wednesday, but that won't be on the test, so you can save that coverage until next week. Be sure and give me your schedule for help sessions, or come to class to announce it. You might also send it out to the class via email.
