SYLLABUS

Energy is a lot like money in the sense that it is simply a form of currency that enables a process to precede. Pretend you are the "system" and you have a certain amount of energy (money). If you give that energy (money) away it would be a negative for you (the system) but a positive to the "surroundings" that received it. The opposite is true as well, if you as the system were to receive energy (money) it would be a positive to you and a negative to the surroundings that gave you the energy (money). Why is it important to think in negatives and positives? Because energy flow is always classified as either exothermic (-, negative, system to surroundings) or endothermic (+, positive, surroundings to system).

In this experiment you are going to investigate two reactions (acting as the system) and determine whether or not they are endothermic or exothermic.
