Welcome to the A-Group
where it takes alkynes to make a world

Our research group focuses on the discovery of new reactions and their application  for photochemical double-stranded DNA-cleavage/ development of antitumor drugs, organic synthesis, and design of new materials.

Even though alkynes are among the first functional groups encountered in an undergraduate organic chemistry class, our group continues to discover new reactions of this functional group.  In particular, our lab  investigates and develops unique aspects of alkyne reactivity made possible by the simultaneous presence of the two orthogonal p-systems. Just check the "parachute" reaction below!

Alkynes are so much more than just alkenes with an extra p-bond!
