SYLLABUS

Acid rain is a product of industrialization. Chemicals released into the air such as nitrates and phosphates combine with the water in the air to make nitric and phosphoric acids. Over time, as these acids are released during rain showers, buildings and statues can become damaged.

In this lab, we will use marble chips to represent the marble of statuary and subject these chips to various concentrations of acid. We will use a change in mass to determine the rate of destruction these acids would produce.
